The Egyptian Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria, headed by Mr. Ahmed Al-Wakeel, held a meeting to discuss the mechanisms of implementing the “One Day Market for Farmers and Food Products” project, in the presence of Dr. Yasser Al-Manawishi, Treasurer of the Chamber, Enrico Azzone, Project Manager from the Italian side, and a number of farmers, beekeepers and dairy producers.
During the meeting, the idea and objective of the project were explained, as the project targets small and micro companies, entrepreneurs, individuals from small farmers, producers of food commodities, apiary products, fishermen, traditional handicrafts and traditional fast food to participate in the Alexandria Farmers Market.
The project also includes providing a number of trainings for participants in the methods of packaging, display, pricing and food safety, in addition to technical support, and providing a weekly sales place in a market scheduled to be held in a prime location in downtown Alexandria.
The project comes in cooperation with the Governorate of Alexandria, the Ministries of Supply, Internal Trade and International Cooperation, Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Trade and Industry, and with the support of Italian Aid, the International Centre for Mediterranean Countries for Agricultural Studies, the Italian Federation of Agriculture, the Italian Farmers’ Markets Organization, and the International Alliance of Farmers’ Markets.
